Duke ACLT Residents Meet with Legislators to Discuss Medicaid Expansion

Duke internal medicine residents in the Advocacy in Clinical Leadership Track (ACLT) met with state legislators this week to discuss Medicaid expansion in North Carolina. The ACLT is an elective track for second- and third-year internal medicine residents with an interest in health policy. Residents develop and present their own advocacy platform each year, alternating between the North Carolina General Assembly and Congress. This year the cohort advocated for the state legislature to expand Medicaid coverage by utilizing fiscal incentives in the federal government's American Rescue Plan that was recently signed into law. Residents met with lead Republicans and Democrats in the House and Senate to urge the legislature to act on closing the coverage gap for uninsured North Carolinians.
