The Duke GI team, No Guts No Glory, recently participated in Triangle Take Steps for Crohn's and Colitis walk and raised $14,575 for the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America.
Duke gastroenterology faculty, staff and providers and affiliated teams participated in the 2-3 mile walk on April 29 and competed to raise more funds than the rival UNC GI team, which raised $11,052 this year. Duke GI won this friendly competition for the second year in a row. After losing to the Duke team last year, UNC GI division chief Nick Shaheen, MD, MPH, had to wear a Duke tie for a day.
The Duke GI team was led by Nancy McGreal, MD, assistant professor of medicine (Gastroenterology) and pediatrics. Dr. McGreal said with money from sponsors and the community the final total raised for this year's walk was approximately $100,000.
Duke GI division chief, Andrew Muir, MD, thanked those in his division who participated.
"I want to thank all of you who donated to the team. It was so great to see so many faculty and staff contributing," Dr. Muir wrote in an email. "We did beat UNC again in the fundraising challenge, and Nick Shaheen should be sending along a photo in a Duke tie soon."
