The Durham Veterans Affairs Medical Center (DVAMC) has announced openings for two Clinical Simulation Fellows in its Interprofessional Advanced Fellowship in Clinical Simulation for the academic year 2016-2017, with a projected start date of July 1.
This fellowship is co-sponsored through the VA Office of Academic Affiliations and SimLEARN (the national VA simulation program). This will be the third year that DVAMC will be participating in this national initiative.
One fellowship will be awarded to a physician. and the other to a non-physician clinician with at least a Master’s Degree from an accredited educational institution, i.e., nursing, social work, physical therapy, biomedical engineering, or other associated health professions.
The overall goal of the Interprofessional Advanced Fellowship in Clinical Simulation is to develop leaders with vision, knowledge, and commitment to advance, implement, teach, and evaluate simulation-based training strategies and to apply simulation in other clinical areas to improve healthcare for our Veterans and the Nation.
The fellowship offers a comprehensive experience in education that includes core knowledge and leadership opportunities that will enable the fellows to develop and operate a simulation program.
The fellows will experience specialized education in
- simulation training modalities
- change management
- quality improvement
- interprofessional teamwork
- communication, and leadership
- development of multi-modal simulation curricula including virtual simulation and computer modeling
- simulation-based research
