Four faculty receive awards at Spring Meeting

At the Spring Faculty Meeting May 2 at the Duke Gardens, the following Medicine faculty were honored with awards: Jon Gockerman, MD, professor of medicine (Medical Oncology) received the 2012 Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award.This award is presented annually to a faculty member who demonstrates outstanding compassion in the delivery of care, respect for patients, their families, and healthcare colleagues, as well as demonstrated clinical excellence. Amy Abernethy, MD, associate professor of medicine (Medical Oncology), received the 2012 Ruth and Morris Williams, Jr Faculty Research Prize. The Williams Prize recognizes groundbreaking research in basic or clinical science in alternate years, and helps to advance research opportunities for younger faculty members and publicize the caliber of medical research underway at Duke. Dr. Abernethy had also been nominated for the Research Mentoring Award for clinically-based research. Robert Califf, MD, professor of medicine (Cardiology), received the Research Mentoring Award for clinically based research. Warner Burch, MD, professor of medicine (Endocrinology, Metabolism and Nutrition), received the Master Clinician/Teacher Award. Congratulations to them all.
