Vance Fowler, MD, MHS, associate professor of medicine (Infectious Diseases), is featured in the March 1, 2011 issue of The Scientist. The article, Resistant to Failure, explains what Fowler did to preserve his research when his collaborator and mentor, David Schwartz, was forced to resign as head of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS). Fowler has since made good progress in determining the genetic roots of S. aureus antibiotic resistance.
