Duke General Internal Medicine is announcing a new awards program to honor the outstanding achievements of our Division Faculty and Staff Members in Clinical Care, Education, Research, Implementation and Professionalism.
GIM will solicit nominations for awards broadly. Nominations should consist of a primary letter of nomination outlining the candidate’s contributions, written by another faculty or staff member who is familiar with these contributions. Nominations will be reviewed by the Selections Committee who will present their choice to the Division Chief for final approval.
Clinical Awards
These are intended to honor physicians who provide superlative care and teaching.
* Outstanding Physician-Clinician Award
Eligible candidates are those who consistently deliver high standards of care and are looked upon as a role model by his or her peers. Additional consideration given to the following: (1) impact on education of residents and students in our midst, (2) a track record of sharing his/her expertise with other health care professionals, and/or (3) recognized contributions and volunteer service to national organizations.
* Outstanding Early Career Clinician-Educator Award
Eligible candidates are those early career faculty (Assistant Professor/Instructor) who are making a significant contribution to the education and training of students/trainees in medicine via teaching, mentoring, or program development.
Clinical Research Awards
These two awards recognize individuals with contributions and exemplary work in translating or extending research into practical application, dissemination, or implementation.
* Research to Practice Award
Criteria will include the quality of the research, the effectiveness of research dissemination and translation approach, and the impact of the research.
* Early Career Investigator Award
This award recognizes early career achievement. Criteria are scientific merit, innovation, clinical/medical impact, and quality of the research environment.
Staff Award
This award for a GIM staff member recognizes exemplary service to the division.
* Staff Excellence Award
Eligible candidates must have been with the division for at least 1 year. Nominations can be based on any of the following attributes: problem solving, creativity, leadership, team work and overall positive attitude.
The award winners will be announced during the annual General Medicine Wine & Cheese + Posters event on September 21, 2016.
