Karen Goldstein, MD, MSPH, has just received funding for a five-year career development award. Goldstein will use this award to examine peer-support interventions for female veterans at risk for coronary disease. Goldstein's intervention will pair female veterans together to provide needed social support to tackle these challenging skills and life changes. This project, which will begin in July, will take a novel, innovative approach to peer support. Participants will work with each other to provide mutual support, after receiving only basic training in listening and communication skills, as opposed to other interventions that use highly trained peers or “para-professionals” in a similar capacity.
