Grand Rounds 8/29/14: A Special Presentation by Robert A. McDonald, Secretary of Veterans Affairs

McDonald, Secretary of Veterans Affairs[/caption] Medicine Grand Rounds on Fri., Aug. 29 at 8 a.m. will feature a special presentation by U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert A. McDonald. Secretary McDonald will present VA: A Higher Calling in the Great Hall of the Trent Semans Center for Health Education. Nominated by President Obama as the eighth Secretary of Veterans Affairs on June 30, Secretary McDonald was confirmed by the United States Senate on July 29, 2014. He is a 1975 graduate of United States Military Academy at West Point and an alumnus of the University of Utah, where he earned an MBA. An Army Veteran and both Airborne and Ranger qualified, he served with the 82nd Airborne Division. Upon leaving military service, Captain McDonald was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. In 1980, Mr. McDonald joined Procter & Gamble, a Fortune 50 company, and he rose through the ranks to become Chief Executive Officer and President. He retired in June 2013. Mr. McDonald served on the Board of Visitors for the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University from 2005-2012 and was the chair from 2011-2012.
