Save the date! February 27, 2019
College Basketball, charming campuses, cool quirky music scenes. The Triangle has long been known for many wonderful things. In 2019, we have a chance to highlight another great feature of our area: great generalist physicians.  In partnership with the Society of General Internal Medicine, the GIM divisions Duke and UNC are joining forces to host our Inaugural #ProudtobeGIM gathering on Wednesday, February 27, from 6 to 9 PM.  We will be gathering at the University Club, enjoying food and drink and looking out over Chapel Hill and Durham from the 17th Floor of University Towers (3100 Tower Blvd in Durham).

Mix and Mingle, Faculty and Trainees, Duke and UNC

General Internal Medicine encompasses so many different fields: Clinical work in primary care, hospital medicine, geriatrics, palliative care, women’s health and many other fields; Academic work in clinical trials, population health, ethics, epidemiology and medical education; Health policy and advocacy; Health care administration.  Opportunities abound for students entering our field.  Our gathering will help faculty from our region foster friendships and mentoring relationships with our wonderful residents and students.

Many of us in GIM are also involved with the community to address problems that affect many of our patients. Joining this year’s #ProudtoBeGIM will be organizations targeting Food Insecurity, pairing patients in need with healthy food resources. We hope that our event will provide you with ideas about how you might get involved and support the larger community.

Invitation to Faculty Coming!

Faculty members will be receiving an electronic invitation to the event. Residents and students will also be receiving invitations.  If you have mentees, encourage them to attend. This year’s event will be memorable, setting the pace for a new tradition, and guiding our next generation of generalists.

This video illustrates the diversity of a career in general internal medicine. If you have questions or ideas about #ProudtobeGIM, please contact Patrick Hemming.
