From the Director

It’s the start of In Training Exams! Are you a categorical or prelim intern? Don’t stress… you will take this next year! All JARs will take the exam as well as SARs who have chosen to. What is the ITE? It is a “mock boards” put forth by the American College of Physicians for you to see where you are in “boards style” knowledge assessment at an early part of JAR year. This can help you know where you are in comparison to JARs across the country, where you may want to focus your learning, and how you want to consider choosing electives SAR year, etc. Pay attention to the emails from Lynsey about your date and time!

Kudos
Kudos this week go to Courtney Dominguez and Kurren Mehta for great work on Duke Gen Med and to Nathan Hirshman and Ann Cameron Barr for thoughtful patient care (all from Ahmad Mourad), to Aman Kansal for being a fantastic VA JAR and to Dr. Brian Schneider for helping with procedures and teaching POCUS from Komal Safdar, and to Cameron Oswalt from our graduate and now HM faculty Dr. Adrian Randall for helping out with a busy admit night at Duke Regional, and to Carter Devlin from Dr. Andrew Muir for excellent work in a busy GI clinic.

Clinic Corner: PRIME

Contributed by Sonal Patel

PRIME is thrilled to have our interns on board! So glad to have you here and it’s nice to see your faces, masks and all, in clinic.

Things are perking along with our telehealth visits and with our intermittent face-to-face gap (urgent care clinic) while we await for NC statistics to improve to allow reopening for more face-to-face care.

PRIME’s move to Hillandale is tentatively scheduled for the end of the month, but we will let residents know more once things are firmly set by the VA’s Moving Forward Committee. Residents, please assume we are still in 1D until you hear otherwise – keep an eye on your email.

PRIME attending Dr. Genevieve Embree has accepted a 14-month assignment as the Durham VA Health Care System Public Health Liaison in the new Office of Public Health/Epidemiology. She is remaining in PRIME while providing COVID-19 support to Veterans in the community and to VA community partners such as nursing homes.

We appreciate all the things each of you are doing during this time and want to be sure you know we are here to support you. Reach out anytime with any questions/concerns or even just to say hi during this time. We’re just a Skype or text or call or email away!
