Internal Medicine Residency News, Dec. 2, 2019

From the Director

Happy Thanksgiving to all – I hope that everyone had a chance for some relaxation with friends and/or family. Many thanks to all who cared for patients over the holiday weekend, and also to our attendings who covered so that residents could make it to the Turkey Bowl on Thursday. The spectator section was filled to the brim, and we appreciate the faculty and residents as well everyone’s family and significant others coming out to support the Marines and the Jets. Lillian Golubski even made her first football game appearance. The Jets secured the victory this year, and the Cohen Cup will sit proudly in Amanda’s office once more.

We have a big week with Fellowship Match Day on Wednesday – this is also a Med Peds interview day, so we appreciate the interns and JARs having lunch with the applicants while the SARs come down to 2002 for match day lunch and some surprises to celebrate the hard work it takes to make it to match day.  All are welcome to join in with the SARs on Wednesday evening as well.

Please join our Pulmonary faculty on Thursday, Dec. 5 for the Pulmonary Division Night with Residents at The Northern Spy beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Interns participated in "no shave November"Blissfully, “no shave November” has come to an end. Check out the intern’s last stand!

Kudos
Kudos this week go to Sean Taasan from Cindy Pabon for a good catch that helped get a patient’s discharge set correctly, to Ryan Keane from Dr. Jason Webb for his great work on 9300 this week: “how he worked with the interdisciplinary team. He was humble and has a strong bedside manner. He did an amazing job supporting several families in transitions to hospice care and coordinated some complex discharge plans during the 2 days he was pulled to the service.” Additional kudos to Ryan Slauer from Cindy Pabon for his fantastic work on cards consults, and to Cassie Lautredou for her great case at Report.

Congratulations to Brian and Danielle Golubski on the birth of Lillian! Welcome to the #dukefamily.

PubMed from the Program
We have a lot of publications recently – keep your eye out on the Pubmed from the Program!

This week’s goes to Alex Sullivan and alum Tara Holder for their recent publication with mentor Dr. Schuyler Jones, “Identification, diagnosis, treatment and in-hospital outcomes of acute pulmonary embolism: results from a single integrated health system” in the American Heart Journal 2019;216:136-142.

Have a great week!
