Internal Medicine Residency News, Feb. 22, 2021

From the Director

WHAT? The last week of Fun-bruary? Say it isn’t so! Lot’s to keep up with this week as we round out the shortest (but clearly rainiest) month of the year! And Duke beat UVA – giddy up!

Do your ACGME survey! Don’t forget that Medicine Grand Rounds moves to 8 a.m. on Friday for the conclusion of Fun-bruary.

Ok, now on to the fun stuff…

Kudos
Major kudos to Marius Chukwurah  for receiving the Dr. Brenda Armstrong Award at the 2021 SNMA Banquet in recognition of his outstanding leadership and mentoring.

Kudos go to our Chief Resident Matt Labriola for his presentation at the virtual NC ACP meeting as well as to our Doctor’s Dilemma team of Matt Abbott, Hannah Florian and Nathan Hirshman. We didn’t win but showed well. Will start buzzer press training for next year’s team ASAP. Also kudos this week to Sith Sekar for an outstanding Cohen Conference and to Chris Wanjiku, Emmanuella Egbonim, Rami Gabriel and Swapna Musunur from Omar Martinez Uribe for being a great cards nights team, to Brandon Durant from Tanziyah Muqueem and Emory Buck for great care of patients on 9100, to Aaron Hein from Harsh Patolia for being an awesome VA JAR, to Emory Buck from Aubrie Carroll for phenomenal patient care, and right back to Aubrie from Emory for an amazing presentation of a very complex patient.

Med-Psych PGY1 Lynette Staplefoote-Boynton received shout-outs from both attendings on the inpatient Psychiatry service at the Durham VA Medical Center for being "intelligent, compassionate and effective..." and "Lynette Staplefoote-Boynton did a fantastic job covering our service on President's Day, after only a week on her first VA Psychiatry rotation and with an attending who was completely unfamiliar with any of the PARC patients. She coordinated a very tricky discharge with a particularly challenging patient/family, earning high praise from the on-call attending. Great work!"

PubMed from the Program
This week’s pubmed from the program goes to our NC ACP poster presenters Saad Atiq, Jo Cavalier, Shannon Herndon, Amanda Broderick, Sukrit Jain, Chris Wanjiku, Harsh Patolia, JR Peacock, Ashley Thrower, Rachel Tobin, Bhavik Patel, Matt Goodwin, including winner in the science section JT Tanaka

Have a great week

Aimee
