From the Director
Another Monday! First week back from Holiday Block, with 2021 giving no sign that it is going to make life easy on us. Taking care of ourselves and each other is really needed – as always, please reach out to any of us whenever you want.
We are back in the full swing for recruitment and your continued participation is so appreciated. Many thanks to our evening zoom attendees Omar Martinez Uribe, Daniel Bernstein, Saad Atiq, Mike Cosiano, Sonali Bracken, Nick Koutlas, Micah Schub, Amanda Broderick, Ben Kellogg, Kelly Flynn, Melanie Cabezas, Peggy Sahu, Ben Redpath, Jess Regan, Yoli Guzman, Priyanka Patel, Gabriela Kraiter, Yuxi Zheng, Mary Jo Obied, Jen Dziwis, Rabab Ali and Kim Darlington! Also to our stellar My Take-ers Nick Koutlas, Caitlin Driscoll, Saad Atiq, Sarah Moserowitz, Ryan Keane, Hayley Cunningham, Chris Asuzu, Forrest Gamble, Cam Oswalt and Kirsten Binz! A few more weeks to go to get our AMAZING new interns!
Kudos
Kudos this week go to Sara Coles for a superb SAR talk, to Peggy Sahu and Rachel Tobin for awesome Cohen Conferences, to Ryan Slauer and Larissa Rodriguez Homs from Bari “Taco Champ” Rosenberg for being an awesome VA team, and back to Bari from Ryan for great work on VA GM. Also our very first long distance kudos to former prelim now Mass eye extraordinaire, Isaac Bleicher from James Helzberg: He caught a case of endocarditis on a patient presenting to ophthalmology clinic with orbital cellulitis, obtained blood cultures, and coordinated their admission to the hospital for appropriate management — still an Duke internist at heart!
The DUKE FAM grew over break!! Congratulations to our new parents!!

PubMed from the Program
This weeks pubmed from the program goes to the combined amazing crew of Johnny Komisar, Colin Smith, Ahmad Mourad and Duke Med Psych Grad Brian Kincaid! They are all over the press! Small Number of Covid Patients Develop Severe Psychotic Symptoms. The article also references their BMJ Case Report: COVID-19-associated brief psychotic disorder | BMJ Case Reports (with additional co-author Dr. Ahmad Mourad). In follow-up to the New York Times publicity (well-earned by Med-Psychers Drs. Colin Smith, Johnny Komisar, and Brian Kincaid along with Ahmad Mourad), Dr. Colin Smith did us all proud during an interview on WUNC yesterday, describing the case of psychosis in COVID-19 they published in BMJ Case Reports, explaining various ways in which psychosis can come about, and shouting out Med-Psych training and practice. Great job!
Have a great week!
