From the Director

We are cruising through January – many thanks to everyone for their hard work as the winter illnesses take hold in the program. Please take time to read the phenomenal social calendar email from the ResCo earlier this week – lots of great activities to join in, including the restarting of Resiteering! Join your colleagues for a fun night playing games at the Ronald McDonald House!

Kudos

Kudos this week go to Hannah Dzmictrowicz from John Davy for being an exemplary SAR on Gen Med, to Shaki Salvador from JVK for her incredible leadership on Gen Med, to Nick Ashur from Neha Keyastha, John Reichstein and Cindy Pabon for being a genuine team player and great friend, to Brian Golubski, Nadia Yimer, Kyle Guerink, Mike Burt, Jeremy Cypen, and Jen Gutierrez McCarty for their communication, teamwork, and collaboration during the pipe issue leading to server issues early evening that affected printers, CPRS (esp handoff sheets), crashed our Spok paging system, radiology and vista. The crew ran around notifying nursing of contact numbers, and then we generated a sheet of contacts (including neurology resident on stroke code), got information to ED, units, pec, wards, etc. from Brian Schneider, and to Nancy Yang and Anmol Singh from Ahmad Mourad for outstanding work on Duke NF. Also kudos to Kent Feng for a fantastic SAR talk and Josh Lee for a superb chair’s conference, and again to Hannah for a great report to the applicants!

Clinic Corner: Pickett Road

This month Pickett Road is excited to welcome our newest attending, Dr. Fatima Syed. Dr. Syed completed her internal medicine residency as well as fellowship in endocrinology at Thomas Jefferson University.  She has been very active in the American College of Physicians, and you may recognize her frequent writings from Annals of Internal Medicine’s “Fresh Look.” We are very excited to have her join our team and not too far down the road having her precept in resident clinic. Welcome Dr. Syed!

All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members.
