One more interview day! And then GME-MRRC Second Look Weekend! We are nearing the finish line! Many many thanks to all residents and faculty who are working so hard to bring in our next amazing class of interns! See y’all on Friday for our last interview day of the 2019-20 season! Or as Dr. Butterly says, the 162nd interview day that he and I have run together.
Many thanks to the ID Division for hosting the night at Northern Spy! Strong turnout, great company!
JARs and any SARs and CIP (“Fast Track”) interns – Dr. Hargett and I will be holding the “Intro to Fellowship” meetings Feb. 4 and Feb. 11 at 6 p.m. in the Med Res. Same content at both meetings. We will review the timeline and thought process of the fellowship match and provide you with a framework to think about your application. Individual and specialty specific meetings to follow.
Kudos
Kudos this week go to Lonnie Sullivan for being selected by the SNMA students as the recipient of the Dr. Brenda Armstrong Resident Mentor Award. Incredibly well deserved. Also kudos this week to Ryan Keane from Nick Kamp! Nick and Ryan worked together on DRH nights last week, and it sounds like Ryan was an absolute rock star. He handled some very sick cross cover patients who had to be transferred to the ICU and admitted some other sick patients from the ED. Also kudos to Daphne Xiao and Jessie Gu for outstanding SAR talks, to Anmol Singh for presenting a great case to our applicants at resident report and to Lonnie Sullivan for a fantastic chair’s conference. Many thanks to our My Take team of Sonali Bracken, Ryan Keane, Michael Burt, Shon Arnold and Nathaniel Harris, as well as our tour guides Jordan Gales, Sean Doerfler, and Anthony Horton. Apologies if you were missed in these kudos and thanks!

Clinic Corner: PRIME

We are sad to say that Friday was our last day with LPN Cece Hamlett in clinic; Cece is moving over to the Women’s Health Clinic. She’ll be missed (especially if you were lucky enough ever to sample her baking skills!).
We are happy to welcome LPN Joseph Collins to PRIME starting this upcoming week. Joseph is new to the VA, coming from Duke. Please be sure to meet him.
We now have Shingrix available – clinical reminder is turned on. Remember that this cannot be given at the same time as FluAd (adjuvanted flu vaccine for patients >age 65). Please prioritize flu vaccine! Shingrix can be given 4 weeks after FluAd. Please remember this is only for our patients over the age of 65!
Dr. D’Silva will have a once a month women’s health clinic in PRIME. This will be on Wednesday PMs. This clinic is for patients who have any women’s health issue that needs a clinic visit for – e.g. contraception, menopause management, family planning. Or if your patient needs a Pap, we’d like to encourage her to get it done here – either in your clinic, or if they feel strongly about not getting it done in PRIME per se, see if she’d be willing to have it done in PRIME by one of the WHC attendings. (It’s essentially the same as going to Women’s Health Clinic, just located in PRIME.) It is our plan to have the LEAD resident work with Dr. D’Silva for those clinics. These are currently scheduled on 1/22 and 2/19.

All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M.
