Internal Medicine Residency News, Jan. 27, 2020

From the Director

Woo hoo! Recruitment 2019-20 is in the books, with a fantastic MRRC Second Look Weekend to cap it off! Many thanks to all who helped us recruit what is sure to be an outstanding class of #FutureDukeResidents. Special thanks to Kayla Humphreys, David Butterly, Kim Evans and Kim Dorman for their amazing work. This week is a bit quieter, but then we have “Fun-bru-ary” so be on the lookout for some pick-me-ups during the shorter, colder month. Many thanks to Sipa Yankey, Toi Spates, Francis Ugowe, Diana Mosquera-Aguierre, Chris Asuzu, Lonnie Sullivan, Ceshae Harding, Cindy Pabon, LaShondra Arnold and Marius Chukwurah for supporting the Second Look weekend!

Tomorrow we have a special noon conference with Dr. Carol Bernstein, the GME Visiting Professor. Dr. Bernstein is a recognized expert on resident well-being, and we look forward to having time to hear from her. She also is giving GME Grand Rounds today at 5 p.m. – all are welcome.

We have an opportunity for two residents to be on the CLINICAL PROBLEM SOLVERS podcast! Email me if you are interested with a short reason why. We will pick the participants out of a hat on FRIDAY so please email me by Thursday PM.

Next week (Feb. 2) is our first “Learn About Fellowship” meeting for rising SARs, any rising JARs planning CIP pathway and any current SARs who may apply to fellowship in the future. Same content will be covered the following week.

Kudos
Kudos this week go to our My Take team of Ceshae Harding, Nathaniel Harris and Dennis Narcisse, to our tour guides Anthony Horton, Dennis Narcisse and Sean Doerfler, and our Chair’s Conference presenter Payton Kendsersky.  Also kudos from Anmol Singh to her amazing Gen Med team of Night residents Bhavik Patel, Ahmad Mourad, Matt Harbrecht, and Chris Zheng for being extremely thorough taking care of many patients overnight, interns Chelsea Perfect and Tareq Aljurf for being such hard working residents on some similarly sick patients, and medical students Krunal Amin and Kosta Morris for working incredibly hard and delivering excellent presentations! Also kudos to the Rachel Tobin for amazing work as a VA GM Intern and to Nancy Yang for her hard work as VA Dayfloat keeping everyone well cared for, fed, caffeinated and learning – both from Sam Dizon.

PubMed from the Program
This week’s pubmed from the program goes to Chief Caroline Sloan for her publication in the Journal of General Internal Medicine -  Sloan C, Stechuchak KM, Olsen MK, Oddone EZ, Damschroder LJ, Maciejewski ML.
