From the Director
Back from vacation! The Chiefs takeover of Med Res News (and the nightly emails) was awesome and much appreciated. Also caught up on all the #tacos from the week in my Slack feed – so incredibly impressed with everyone’s teamwork and taking care of each other.
Today we have the SAR virtual interview practice noon conference with Dr. Kat Pollak, a communications specialist and interviewing expert. Interns and JARs, please enjoy the time to socially distance and spend time with your teams. It promises to be a mere 105 degree heat index today so likely available tables outside. And as much as it is challenging, please don’t all crowd into workrooms to eat.
Kudos
In other news, kudos to Micah Schub and Stacy Bagrova for their EPIC appearance on the Clinical Problem Solvers podcast. They were awesome. I even got an email from a colleague at another institution who is an avid CP Solvers addict telling me that Micah and Stacy had one of THE BEST resident CP Solvers episodes that he has heard. Total “kvelling” moment for this PD. (If you don’t know what the word “kvelling” means, stay tuned for tonight’s email.)
Also congratulations to Micah Schub and Gina Silverstein on their wedding!

Kudos to Saad Atiq from Emory Buck for teaching her how to spin urine and just generally being an awesome JAR, to Vinay Choksi and Soo Lim from Connor Craig and Sarah Greene for being great, supportive Gen Med SARs, to Grace Lee and Sam Curtis for bringing Sam Dizon good vibes for her first CICU call, to the 9100 team of Bari Rosenberg, Hubie Haywood, Ryne Ramaker and Chris Wanjiku for working together like true #dukefam, to Emilio Guzman Cisneros from Aubrie Carroll for a great intern report presentation, to Carter Devlin from Sam Dizon for fantastic patient handoff, to Monty Natour from Roshni Dhoot for helping out the interns in the ACC, to Vivian Chen-Andrews from Emory Buck for a lifesaving espresso, to James Helzberg from Aaron Hein for excellent MICU teamwork, and to Michael Burt, Sarah Norton, Sean Taasan and Emory Buck from Saad Atiq for being the best VA teammates.

Clinic Corner: Ambulatory

Ambulatory Threads 2020-2021
Hey everyone! I described the Threads in detail in my last Clinic Corner (June 29th). Now, I’d like to update you: All of the divisions have been hard at work sharing their faculty availability right now, during social distancing restrictions, and letting us know where you all can fit. Great news! There are many subspecialty clinic sites opening back up. Huge KUDOS to Emily Sikes for navigating all of the changes in your schedules as Hannah and I gather info. Look for more fun ambulatory Threads clinics in your block 3 and 4 schedules.
Morning Report
The morning report series is off to a great start! Thanks to all who have been joining in for this new general medicine based curriculum we launched last year. There are faculty from all over the health system coming to give case-based talks on their specialty areas. Also, we know that in-person morning report used to be a place to check in with the chief resident in a casual way about any questions or concerns – Hannah is planning to add this feature back in, after she finished rounding this week, so that there is a chance to check in after the formal Zoom finishes. Stay tuned!

All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources.
