From the Director

Week 2! Super proud of everyone for getting the year started so smoothly. It's been great seeing people in their new roles and overhearing all the teaching happening. All of your hard work is much appreciated. We've had some great conferences and reports as well to start off the year. This week marks the first Medicine Grand Rounds of the academic year - don't forget to register (just once for the series this year) so you can get the link!

Interns, please note that we will have a an opportunity on Wednesday (July 8) at noon to get your "official" picture taken. The photos are used for your trainee profiles on the residency program website and are available for your professional use. More details to follow and additional times will be made available as we know that many of you are either off-site or working nights! Just so you can plan to not wear scrubs or bring a non-scrub shirt.

Kudos
Kudos this week go to Nathan Hirshman from Harsh Patolia and Komal Safdar for awesome CAD nights teaching, to Zachary Lorsch from Dr. Suma Shah for great patient care and fantastic communication with the nursing teams, to Jo Cavalier, Sam Rauch, and Peggy Sahu for being the best crew to finish intern year with! Also, kudos to Daniel Bernstein and Priyanka Patel for rocking it in the Pickett Road Clinic in their first week as interns!

Congratulations to Ahmad Mourad for being selected to Chair the GME Resident Council and to our reps Carlos Barbery, Sara Coles, Hayley Cunningham, Cassie Lautredou, Cindy Pabon, Colin Smith and Grace Lee for being elected to be GME Resident Council members.

Congratulations to the Eder FamilyLena and Marc welcomed Zoya Isabella on July 4th! Everyone is doing great!

PubMed from the Program
This week’s pubmed from the program goes to Cindy Pabon for her essay published in the Journal of Graduate Medical Education!

Have a great week!

Feeling down? Need to talk to someone? Opportunities for Wellness
All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources. Another resource is Duke Outpatient Psychiatry Referrals at (919) 684-0100 or 1-888-ASK-DUKE. https://www.hr.duke.edu/pas/
