Internal Medicine Residency News, June 21st, 2021

From the Director

Welcome to Jessica, Dennis, Nancy and (almost) Mike! Come by whatever office is nearest you and say hello to the 2021-22 Duke IM Chiefs! Final kudos and hugs to Matt, Steph, Hannah and Govind (and Sara Coles who took a pic of Matt with each team at Candy Rounds!). Way to end the year with our last of three rising SAR retreats!  If you haven’t seen the most spectacular artwork ever, stop by my office (or check out Twitter, but stopping by to say hi is better).

Kudos
Kudos this week to Audrey Zhang for superbly covering 2 full days of gen med and to Chris Wanjiku and Bushra Hussein for taking outstanding care of their complex patients (from Joyce Hwang). Also kudos to Nathan Hirshman from Hayley Cunningham for volunteering to cover for a MICU resident on a long call while stepping into the roll beautifully! Another kudos to Katherine Zhou from Dr. Dani Zipkin for phenomenal patient centered care at the DOC, and to Aubrie Carroll for going ABOVE AND BEYOND to help a patient at the VA (From Ryan Keane) and to Tia Williams-Hope from Sonali Bracken for being an amazing help to the graduating SARs.

It’s wedding season!!! Congratulations to Hannah Robinson and Alex Grubb, Sriya Muralidharan and Sukrit Jain, and Matt Goodwin and Tiana Thomas! So happy for all of you!

The new interns are coming!!! Can’t wait! Keep an eye out for emails about when you can meet your “little sib” and more! Shadow day emails have gone out to those who will have shadowers – let me know if you have questions!

All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources. Another resource is Duke Outpatient Psychiatry Referrals at (919) 684-0100 or 1-888-ASK-DUKE. https://www.hr.duke.edu/pas/
