From the Director
It’s June! We are really moving quickly toward the new academic year. I was able to return to Baltimore this past weekend for my residency reunion – definitely a lot of fun, and a great reminder of how enduring the friendships we make during residency are, with people who came in for the weekend from all over the country for a chance to get the crew back together again. I thought we all looked the same until the pictures from our last night of intern year (among others) came out. We’ve aged a bit, but the sentiment has not. I really do look forward to those reunions for you all in the future.
For those applying to fellowship, please keep an eye out on the ERAS website as it should open within the next few days. Any questions, please be sure to ask me or Bill Hargett.
Don't forget: The MRRC will host "Smart Positioning on the Interview Day and Beyond: Pearls on CVs, Personal Statements, and More," on Wednesday (June 5) from 6:30-8 p.m. in DMP 2W96. See details below!
Kudos
Kudos this week go to our amazing chiefs Jenny, John Paul, Kara and Winn and thank you to all who were able to celebrate them at the picnic. More kudos to John Paul for his fantastic grand rounds, to Brittany Gatta for being selected as the 2019-20 Amit Bhaskar Compassion in Medicine Award recipient by her peers, to Claire Smith and Nathan Moulton for winning the LeCoq Best SAR Talk Award, to Courtney Lamberton for her excellent SAR talk, to Maggie Salinger from Michael Burt for excellent work and help in the CCU, to Yoli Guzman and Ahmad Mourad from Lena Eder for fantastic cross cover at the VA, to Payton Kendsersky from Ravi Karra and Kevin Friede for outstanding workup of a sick patient on Cardiology nights, and to Lena Eder and Ben Groves from Diana Mosquerra for outstanding and compassionate care at the VA.
Kudos to our ACLT team for their lobbying efforts at the Raleigh State House this week! See the full story here. Advocacy is a fantastic way to extend your reach as a physician.
PubMed from the Program
There are many more Pubmeds from the Program right now than I can keep up with! We’ve had many presenters at national meetings this week – I don’t want to miss anyone, so please send me and Ernest the title of your posters/presentations! Today, our recognition goes to Alie Mara for her ASCO presentation “Prevalence of Pathogenic Germline Variants in DNA Repair by Age, Race, and Ethnicity in Men with Prostate Cancer” – mentors include Jason Zhu, Tian Zhang, Dan George and Andy Armstrong!
Have a great week!
Aimee
