Internal Medicine Residency News, March 23, 2020

From the Director

The news continues.  Please note that COVID-19 information and updates will be coming from the health system so we can still use Med Res News to focus on recognitions of our DukeFamily and other residency related information.

Residency Info:  The ACGME 2019-20 Resident Survey has been postponed.  You are still able to fill out your survey however if you choose to and we will get results from the ACGME if we get to a 70% completion rate.  We won’t be sending reminders as we (and the ACGME) recognize there are bigger things happening right now.  Per the ACGME “Surveys will remain available to the scheduled participants and the survey closing date has been extended to May 2020, but participation is optional.”

Thank you to the VA teams for hanging in there through the power outage this weekend!

Kudos
Kudos and jobs well done! Congratulations to Dennis Narcisse, Jordan Gales and Nancy Yang on their selection to the Duke University Chapter of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society! It was our pleasure to support your nomination, and we are excited that you were selected!  Kudos also to Cindy Pabon and Nathan Hirschman from Amanda Boyd, Cindy Johnson and the VA team for excellent care of a patient at the VA, to Michael Burt, Vinay Choksi, Payton Kendersky, Neesha Nanna, Tsion Aberra, Taylor Triana and Jo Cavalier from Jason Katz for being a phenomenal CICU team, to Jeff Kwock from Caroline Sloan for representing the DukeFamily values last week, to the CAD nights team of Sriya Muralidharan,  Erin Song, Joe Wawrzynski and Melanie Cabezas from Marc Samsky for awesome patient care and teamwork, to Juliette Logan for her work on the residency wellbeing initiatives, to Andrew Andreae for his amazing work at the DOC (from Dani Zipkin) as DOC lead AND for his work on the residency wellbeing initiatives also (from Hayley Cunningham), and to the Chiefs from Hayley and all my fellow residents - they have also been going above and beyond to keep us and our patient safe. I can't even imaging how hard they are working on all this.

Best,
Aimee

Feeling down? Need to talk to someone? Opportunities for Wellness
All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources. Another resource is Duke Outpatient Psychiatry Referrals at (919) 684-0100 or 1-888-ASK-DUKE. https://www.hr.duke.edu/pas/
