We are getting down to crunch time for the year! Important “things to do” if you are a SAR – check those procedure logs and get them up to date, go through VA alerts and your inbox, make sure all those modules are done, and meet with me for your end of residency meeting (!); For JARs, we have your “rising SAR” retreat on Thursday – looking forward to interview practice, learning about ‘advanced’ team leadership and spending time together as a class; for interns, thanks to the great group at "How to Be a JAR" on Friday for excellent discussion. You are almost there – now that schedules are out, it is a good time to look and see when you want to take Step 3 next year.
For all – please take a few minutes to do your CulturePulse survey. The survey is anonymous and brief. Each employee has received an individual email with a personal survey link in it. The email came from survey@smdhr.com; It may look like spam, but it is not! It took me about 5 minutes to do.

We are excited to see the impact you all make on our med students. Congratulations also to the Class of 2019 on graduation this weekend!

From the Residency Office
PWIM Event thank you
Thanks to many residents and fellows for their engagement in our two recent PWIM events, the “Before They Were Stars” panel and our Clipp-Speer visiting professorship with Dr. Victoria Fraser, Chair of Medicine at Washington University. At the BTWS event I was especially inspired by remarks from Dr. Patty Lee (Chief of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine) that the leadership of Drs. Klotman and Cooney conveyed that women can lead at the highest levels at Duke. She additionally discussed her vision for promoting and achieving wellness among faculty, staff and trainees, noting that achieving wellness leads to improved academic success. We look forward to Dr. Lee’s leadership! Dr. Fraser delivered an inspiring Grand Rounds in support of the idea that diversity of all kinds in our community leads to improved performance and success for individuals and ultimately for institutions. Feeling down? Need to talk to someone? Opportunities for Wellness
All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources.
