Internal Medicine Residency News, Nov. 29th, 2021

From the Director

It’s a big week! Hope you all enjoyed some of the past weekend (including the most beautiful day for the Turkey Bowl!).  As we race into December, we have a lot going on this week as well – Fellowship Match happens Wednesday and our Res/Fellows holiday celebration on Friday.  Many thanks to Dr. Cooney, the DOM and our fantastic Med Res Team for putting this together.    Signups for half-yearly meetings with either Dr Hargett or me are in full swing so please remember to do this if you haven’t already (see email from Tia for instructions).

Kudos

Kudos this week to Tim Hopper for his outstanding SAR talk, to Ceshae Harding for her acceptance into the NCSP program, to Hannah Florian, Sean Taasan and Thomas O’Toole for amazing work in the VA MICU from pulmonary fellow Emily Sanders, kudos again to Thomas O’Toole from Sean Taasan for his wonderful work in the MICU,  from the PRIME RNs to LEAD resident JT Tanaka for being very engaged and responsive to patient triage issues and for helping coordinate mAb infusions for COVID+ patients, to Surya Patel, Ben Berger and Harrison Matthews for fantastic work on 9300 from Dr. Galanos, to Surya, Ben, Harrison, Nish Shivkaumar and Nick Mayne from Cam Oswalt for being amazing interns on 9300 while he was the fellow, to Andrew Andraeae from Aaron Hein for help on a busy clinic day, to Daniel Bernstein, Harsh Patolia, Jordan Infield and Allison Taylor for having the best CICR presentations as voted by their peers, and to Katelyn Seale, Andrea Linares Lopez and Alli Apfel from Sachie Oshima for being fantastic co-interns on cards nights, and to our My Taker’s Daniel Travis, Sarah Moserowitz and Peggy Sahu.

Congrats to Daniel Travis and Kayla Humphreys on their engagement!

Feeling down? Need to talk to someone? Opportunities for Wellness
All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources. Another resource is Duke Outpatient Psychiatry Referrals at (919) 684-0100 or 1-888-ASK-DUKE. https://www.hr.duke.edu/pas/
