From the Director

Happy Thanksgiving week to all! Turkey Bowl is right around the corner, and I am hoping for some beautiful fall weather, great turnout, outstanding referees and minimal injuries!

For those who are traveling over the holiday – safe travels! To those who are here, we hope to see you at the “Turkey in the Med Res” turkey dinner after the football game.

Kudos

Kudos this week to Becca Lumsden from her medical student Keven for making the gen med rotation fun and filled with learning … to Caroline Sloan for an outstanding chair’s conference … to Mike Dorry for presenting a fantastic case to our applicants at report on Monday … to David Sermer, Leah Machen and Juan Magana for stepping up and helping out in a big way … to David Sterken from Kara Wegermann for outstanding care of the patients overnight on night float (“above and beyond”) … and to the Lincoln Community Health Center team (Erin Payne, Robert Diep, Rachel Feder, Lauren Collins, Jake Feigel) for planning an awesome Lincoln volunteer pot luck mixer  … and to Joel Boggan for planning the Stead Cookout this weekend.

Please take time to check out the “CLER Corner” on MedHub for all questions about the upcoming CLER visit in December.  CLER stands for Clinical Learning Environment Review and is part of ACGME accreditation for all institutions. The CLER visit happens about every 18 months for ALL hospitals that have residency/fellowship programs and helps the ACGME understand how GME works at Duke. You may be asked to participate in a panel of residents, or you may see CLER visitors on rounds or touring.

Thank you to everyone who has been helping with our recruitment efforts! Special thanks this week to tour guides Brian Andonian, Jenny Van Kirk, and Coco Fraiche, as well as our My Take speakers Becca Lumsden, Kevin Smith, Bill McManigle, Jenny Van Kirk, Kent Feng and Mike Dorry.

PubMed from the Program

This week’s highlight goes to Lakshmi Krishnan for her abstract accepted to the upcoming SGIM meeting, with mentors Dani Zipkin and Anna Reisman: "Clinical and Deductive Reasoning in Trainees: Using Literature to Teach It."

Have a great week, and happy thanksgiving to all.  Incredibly grateful for our #dukefamily.

Have a great week!

Aimee
