Internal Medicine Residency News, October 17th, 2022

From the Director

Hey everyone! Hope you are continuing to enjoy Doctoberfest and all things fall.  It was great to see everyone who was able to make it to Boxcar on Thursday to enjoy some time together on a nice evening.  Coming up, the GI Division will be meeting us at Ponysaurus on Oct 27th.  Still time to guess the candy corn in the jar in the med res, complete the Halloween puzzle AND send in kudos/thank you’s to colleagues.

You know what goes great with fall?  A FLU SHOT!! Please pay attention to your emails from Emily to see if you still need to complete this.  Shots (or exemptions) are due by Nov 15th.  If you get your shot outside of Duke, please make sure to upload to vaxtrax.

Do you have a voting plan? While online voter registration deadline was Oct 14th, you can one-stop register and vote when early voting starts on Oct 20th.

Kudos

Congratulations to Sarah Morgan and Dan Weinberg on their engagement!! We are all so happy for you both!

Other kudos this week to Chelsea Gaviola and Emmanuella Egbonim on some masterclass SAR talks and Mae Hamilton for a fantastic Cohen Conference.  Other kudos to Brandon Durant from Dr. Jane Gagliardi for great work on Duke Gen Med, to Nijat Aliyev from Tingrui Zhao for help with an overnight procedure, to John Demis to stellar work on 9100 nights (from Jackie Kercheval) and right back to Jackie from John for awesome supervision, to Auston Stiefer from CRQS Ryan Duffy for submitting a very helpful and constructive SRS that should help things run more smoothly going forward, to Katie Centner from Sarah Moserowitz for excellent day-floating, to Sachi Oshima from Hannah Schwennesen for her poise in the MICU and also to Nicole Dussault and Shannon McGue for their amazing MICU work as well, with more back to this crew from Nicole,  and to Kate Lee from John Demis for sorting out a first call issue and saving the day!

All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. Prioritized GME appts are now available also at 6 pm and 7 pm! For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources. Another resource is Duke Outpatient Psychiatry Referrals at (919) 684-0100 or 1-888-ASK-DUKE. https://www.hr.duke.edu/pas/
