From the Director

This week starts our We Care Week, the final week of Doctoberfest 2016! Remember, we are not having lunch at noon conference but donating our funds to the charities of YOUR choice. Please see the information from Erin Payne about how to vote for your favorite charities (all nominated by your peers).

Thanks to Madi for organizing an awesome Recruitment Kickoff at Gonza this week. Lots of fun had by all—we are so ready to welcome the applicants starting Nov 4. Keep an eye out for emails from Madi for recruitment info

Kudos

Kudos this week to Rachel Hu for her SAR talk, to David Beavers for his Chair’s Conference, to the night float crew of Caroline Sloan (AKA "Sloan-Bone"), Jared Lowe ("J-Lo"), Megan Gillum ("Kill-UM") and Shai Posner (AKA "Shay") from Maggie Moses for being a smart, fun and generally amazing group to work with, and to Nicole Pristera from Dr. Mettu for great coordination of care.

Stead Tread

Extra thanks and huge congratulations to Matt Crowley and the Kempner Society for the 5th Annual Stead Tread! The fantastic team led by Caroline Sloan includes Zach Wegermann, Kara Wegermann, Jasmine Washington, David Beavers, Christine Bates, Todd Brophy, Megan Gillum and Daniel Turner. They all put in a tremendous amount of work to organize a fabulous 5K to benefit the Lincoln Community Health Center. It was really fantastic to see everyone out on Saturday morning (well, Adam Banks was basically a blur so not sure if we actually saw him FLY through the race!), with faculty, residents, significant others, Lincoln team members and patients all coming out for a great cause.

Other congrats this week go to the newlyweds Brian and Michelle Andonian as well as to Meg Steiner on her engagement.

In-training exam scores arrived on Friday, so your advisors should be getting those to you this week. We are also doing the coach matching on October 31, so please remember to fill out your information form. Finally, if you haven’t completed the Engagement Survey, please do so this week.

#noflu

If you are one of the stragglers who hasn’t gotten a flu shot yet…go get one! It’s almost the due date, and it’s Duke policy unless you have already completed a waiver.

Have a great week,

Aimee

PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources. Another resource is Duke Outpatient Psychiatry Referrals at (919) 684-0100 or 1-888-ASK-DUKE. https://www.hr.duke.edu/pas/
