Internal Medicine Residency News, September 26th, 2022

From the Director

We are closing in on some of my favorite seasons of the year…. We are way deep in high school and college soccer, and now it is FALL and then it will be the start of Duke Basketball.  Coming up for the program in just a few short days is DOCTOBERFEST!  Stay tuned for trivia (for prizes!), snacks, decorate your team room door contests and more, including easy ways to send thanks and kudos to your colleagues outside the program!

On the heels of Doctoberfest is of course RESIDENT RECRUITMENT!! The first recruitment day starts on Oct 31 (preliminary applicants) and then we are in full swing on Mondays and Thursdays for categorical recruitment. We of course need YOU to be our best recruiters by participating in the evening pre-recruitment virtual happy hours and the “my takes” on interview days.  Be on the lookout for emails from Kayla about how to sign up.  Many thanks to Yajaira Jiminez and Lilly Suarez for their efforts at the LMSA Residency Fair on Sunday!

L'Shana Tova and Happy New Year to all who are celebrating today!

FLU SHOTS are here! And required! Please make sure to get your flu shot or complete exemption paperwork for approval as soon as you can.  You can get vaccinated on many of the floors at Duke, at your continuity clinic, at EOHW or in the DMP.  Shots are also available at the VA.  If you choose to get vaccinated outside of Duke, please upload proof into VAXTRAX.

Duke Health is offering several opportunities for faculty, staff, and students to register to vote in the November 8, 2022 election.

Continuity Clinic Survey: Coming Soon!

Please be on the lookout in MedHub in October for a survey to give us feedback about your continuity clinic experience.  We want to hear from you regarding the learning environment and the clinical environment at your sites. The leadership teams as all three sites focus on your feedback as they work on building your experiences in primary care. Thank you in advance!

Feeling down? Need to talk to someone? Opportunities for Wellness
All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. Prioritized GME appts are now available also at 6 pm and 7 pm! For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources. Another resource is Duke Outpatient Psychiatry Referrals at (919) 684-0100 or 1-888-ASK-DUKE. https://www.hr.duke.edu/pas/
