From the Director

It’s basically June!  We know things have been a bit crazy with another resurgence of COVID amongst everyone. We appreciate everyone’s flexibility and willingness to help out as we weather another curve ball.  Much appreciation to the GME office for their help with our coverage situations.  Thanks also to all who came to hear about the ACGME survey results – the talk is posted with the noon conference files if you want to check it out.

Please pay attention to any and all emails from the med res office, chiefs and me (I know you always do, but end of the year is filled with tons of time sensitive info) … for SARs there are check out emails, JARs there are fellowship and other end of year stuff, and interns there is end of year stuff as well.    We are excited to celebrate our SARs in the Museum of Life and Science garden patio on Friday.  Look for emails from Kayla with all the details!

Kudos

Kudos this week to Erin Frost for an outstanding SAR talk, to Katie Center from Nijat Aliyev for great handoff on patients on 9100, to Erin Hercules from Matt Abbott for championing patient advocacy, and to Sara Barlow from Matt Abbott for thoughtful care of a patients on Duke Gen Med. Huge kudos to Duke IM res alum Dr. Laura Caputo for winning the prestigious David M. Worthen Award for Excellence in Health Professions Education – Innovator Award.  This is one of the three major national VA faculty awards! We are so proud of you and thank you for teaching our residents!

Pubmed from the Program

This week’s pubmed from the program goes to Monroe Wolf for her publication earlier this year!

Feeling down? Need to talk to someone? Opportunities for Wellness
All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources. Another resource is Duke Outpatient Psychiatry Referrals at (919) 684-0100 or 1-888-ASK-DUKE. https://www.hr.duke.edu/pas/
