What is the quality of care like for the largest health care system in the United States? Is it providing optimal care to patients with transient ischemic attack (TIA) and minor stroke?
Chad Kessler, MD, Professor of Medicine and Deputy Chief of Staff at the Durham VA, is a co-author of a recent publication in JAMA Neurology, entitled "Quality of Care for Veterans With Transient Ischemic Attack and Minor Stroke." The study provides benchmarking data for the Veterans Health Administration system for TIA and minor stroke care quality and identifies targets for quality improvement.
Findings
This cohort study of 8201 patients identified opportunities to improve care quality, particularly among patients who were discharged from the emergency department and those who did not receive early neurology consultation.
