Peter Kussin, MD, associate professor of medicine (Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine), has previously won several Strength, Hope and Caring Awards from Duke University Hospital for his compassionate support of patients, their families and the medical teams. This year, Dr. Kussin earned the Ambulatory Annual Provider Award. "Peter consistently acts as an advocate for staff members in the Duke Health Center at North Duke Street practice," said Carl Ravin, MD, president of the Private Diagnostic Clinic. Kussin was nominated for his actions following a deadly incident at the North Duke Street clinic.
He took time out of his busy clinic schedule to support Carolyn O’Connor, the health center administrator, during the debriefing sessions and was the physician spokesperson for the practice. This dedication is characteristic of Dr. Kussin as he consistently acts as an advocate for staff members in the practice. When a staff member was transported to the Emergency Department via ambulance, Dr. Kussin met that staff member at the ED and offered assistance; when a staff member was hospitalized for a health condition, Dr. Kussin was one of the physicians who cared for her; when another staff member was diagnosed with cancer, Dr. Kussin arranged a luncheon prior to her surgery.
The staff at North Duke Street wanted to recognize Kussin and thank him for his tireless efforts on behalf of both his patients and coworkers.
