Duke General Internal Medicine has recently received two generous philanthropic gifts that will help accelerate our Division: one for the Duke Diet and Fitness Center and one for Duke Primary Care.
Duke Diet and Fitness Center
After a patient was very pleased with his first visit to the Duke Diet and Fitness Center (DFC), he wanted to help make the program even better with a pledge. The patient wished to help increase programming regarding low-carbohydrate nutrition at the Center. "The pledge will be used to increase low carbohydrate food options on the menu, add low carbohydrate presentations and content to the didactic course schedule, include low carbohydrate meal cooking demonstrations, develop methods for helping patients identify the diet as an option, and publish a Duke Diet and Fitness Center low carbohydrate cookbook," explains Dr. William Yancy, GIM Associate Professor and Director of Duke DFC.
Duke Primary Care
The Duke Primary Care funding will go towards supporting and strengthening the Primary Care Leadership Track (PCLT) program. This is a special program within the medical school that promotes and supports students who are interested in careers in primary care.
"The donor very much wanted to support our work to highlight primary care at Duke as well as show appreciation for the excellent care received from providers here," says Dr. Bruce Peyser, GIM Professor of Medicine in GIM and Associate Director of the PCLT Program.
