The Department of Medicine hosted a special Medicine Grand Rounds on Fri., May 20, that featured research by Duke Internal Medicine Residents.
The special grand rounds included a poster session of resident research and presentations by four residents. Each of the four presenters received a Califf Medicine Research Award, the annual research prizes dedicated to promoting resident research. The 2016 Califf Medicine Research Award winners are:
Benjamin Peterson, MD, senior assistant resident, presented "Majority of our of hospital cardiac arrests are preceded by recent physician encounter."
Pascale Khairallah, MD, junior assistant resident, presented "Acid-base and phosphorus homeostasis in chronic kidney disease: results from the chronic renal insufficiency cohort (CRIC) study."
Nicholas Turner, MD, medicine-pediatrics resident, presented "Implications of reported penicillin allergies in treatment of MSSA bacteremia."
Michael Goldstein, MD, PhD, intern, presented "Targeting nucleolin with an RNA aptamer as a novel cancer therapeutic."
