The Private Diagnostic Clinic, (PDC), the faculty medical practice at Duke, has announced a call for applications for the Enhanced Academics in a Basic Laboratory Environment (ENABLE) program, which will provide salary support for PDC members to spend a substantial portion of their effort (at least 25%) working with a primary research group.
Funding will be for two years. Application deadline is May 1, 2015.
PDC members will receive application instructions by email. "The ENABLE program will match a clinician with a researcher to develop new research collaborations that lead to an externally-funded research program," said Mark Newman, MD, president of the PDC. "It is not to fund clinicians who are expected to run their own independent research programs, but rather to fund faculty members to be embedded in another PI’s research environment and become an active member of a research team."
The PI and his/her research environment can be in a basic science or clinical department within the School of Medicine, and when an appropriate PI is not available, from another School at Duke (e.g., Engineering).
A faculty member with a laboratory research program in a basic science or clinical department may also submit a proposal, and the PDC will help identify an appropriate PDC member to participate.
ENABLE participants will be expected to provide a report at the end of each year of funding that describes progress toward the development of a sustainable project.
