Remembering General Medicine Colleague, Nirmala Amaldoss, MBBS

Dr. Nirmala Amaldoss, who served as a clinician-educator in the Division of General of Internal Medicine since 2003, died on June 23. The funeral was held Monday, June 26.

A native of India, Amaldoss attended medical school at Lady Hardings Medical College. She completed residency training at Flushing Hospital Medical Center and Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. After a fellowship in geriatric medicine at Drexel University she joined the Duke Faculty in 2003.

Dr. Lynn Bowlby, a close colleague of Amaldoss, remembers meeting her when she first came to Duke. 

"I was so impressed by her intelligence and dedication to our patients and residents," says Bowlby. "She left a strong legacy as an excellent clinician educator at the DOC."

Dr. Amaldoss is survived by her husband, Wilfred Amaldoss, the Thomas A. Finch, Jr. Professor in the Fuqua School of Business. Her obituary appeared in the News and Observer. Please join us in extending our condolences to Dr. Amaldoss' family and friends.
