Rymer to serve as next Program for Women in Internal Medicine Trainee Liaison

Jennifer Rymer, MDWe are pleased to announce that Jennifer Rymer, MD, MBA, MHS, FAHA, FACC, assistant professor of medicine (Cardiology), has been selected as the next Trainee Liaison for the Program for Women in Internal Medicine (PWIM) in the Department of Medicine.

Dr. Rymer follows Suchita Shah Sata, MD, FACP, SFHM, assistant professor of medicine (General Internal Medicine), who served as the PWIM Trainee Liaison beginning in 2018. In the role, Dr. Sata created new PWIM initiatives focused on trainees, and she provided trainees with mentorship, networking, and career development opportunities.

“Dr. Sata approached the Trainee Liaison role with clarity and commitment and created new spaces for trainees to connect with our faculty. She enriched the content that was shared, and she remained a constant source of mentorship for our trainees,” said Daniella Zipkin, MD, chair of the Program for Women in Internal Medicine.

The PWIM Trainee Liaison, working closely with the PWIM Chair, conceives and implements programs that are tailored to the needs of trainees. The Trainee Liaison serves on the PWIM advisory board, promotes PWIM events and opportunities, provides mentorship to trainees, and much more.

“Dr. Rymer brings a wealth of experience in working with residents and fellows from across the department. Her energy and ideas for the role will have a great impact on the trainees in the Department of Medicine,” Dr. Zipkin said.

Rymer earned her MD, MBA at Vanderbilt University. She came to Duke for internal medicine residency training, cardiovascular disease fellowship and interventional cardiology fellowship training. Rymer served as chief resident for Duke University Hospital from 2015-2016.

The Program for Women in Internal Medicine aims to support, unite, inspire, and empower women faculty and trainees to achieve their highest potential in scholarship, leadership, and well-being, and thereby serves to strengthen the Department of Medicine as a whole. PWIM specifically seeks to nurture and improve the experience of women faculty and trainees in three core domains: 1) Networking and Wellbeing, 2) Scholarship and Leadership, and 3) Equity and Diversity.
