Congratulations to Stefanie Sarantopoulos, MD, PhD, associate professor of medicine (Hematological Malignancies and Cellular Therapy), who was named the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Woman of the Year for the Triangle chapter on May 1.
Dr. Sarantopoulos raised the most money in a competition to earn the Triangle LLS's "Man and Woman of the Year" title by raising funds for LLS for blood cancer research and patient assistance. The 15 candidates in the Triangle chapter competed in honor of children who are local blood cancer survivors, the Boy and Girl of the Year. Sarantopoulos raised more than $77,000, and the combined efforts of the 15 candidates resulted in more than $950,000. Read more about Sarantopoulos's campaign.
"I am so fortunate to be part of an amazing community of good-hearted people," Sarantopoulos said. "People who gave valuable time and effort to raise awareness about the urgent need for more cancer research."
Sarantopoulos was crowned Triangle Woman of the Year by the 2015 winner, Arati Rao, MD, a former faculty member in the Division of Hematological Malignancies and Cellular Therapy.
