Chancellor Victor J. Dzau, MD, sent the following message to School of Medicine faculty and DUHS managers about the Sixty Minutes report about Dr. Anil Potti, former associate professor of medicine (Medical Oncology).
Many of you may have seen that "60 Minutes" aired a story last night that reported on the series of events involving Dr. Anil Potti that have unfolded over the past few years. We cooperated fully and transparently with the "60 Minutes" producers and believe the story was accurately reflective of what we understand happened in this situation.
Over the past many months we have developed and are implementing new rigorous processes and procedures to prevent a situation such as this from occurring again at Duke. I also know that we have emerged as an even stronger organization as a result of this experience.
We are also committed to sharing our learnings with the scientific community and the public so that this incident can become something that is ultimately a useful learning experience to researchers and institutions everywhere and can serve to assure accurate translation of important research to advance patient care.
