The Duke University School of Medicine’s Office of Diversity & Inclusion is accepting nominations for the Michelle Winn Inclusive Excellence Award, which was established to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to diversity and inclusion within the Duke University School of Medicine community.
This award is presented annually to students, faculty, and staff members who create a more diverse and inclusive environment through excellence, innovation, and leadership.
Michelle Winn, MD, Associate Professor of Nephrology in the Department of Medicine, passed away in July 2014. She came to Duke in 1992 as an intern and undertook residencies in Psychiatry and Medicine before focusing her career on Nephrology and joining our faculty. She was a wonderful clinician, a generous mentor, and an esteemed physician-scientist. Dr. Winn was respected and beloved by her colleagues, and deeply committed to diversity and inclusion and to the careers of younger physicians and scientists who orbited around her.
All School of Medicine faculty, staff, trainees, and health professions students are invited to nominate a student, staff, trainee (i.e. intern/resident) or faculty member in the School of Medicine for this important award. One staff member and one faculty member will be chosen for the award and multiple trainees may receive the award.
