SOM announces ALICE leadership program for Mid-Career Women Faculty

The School of Medicine Office for Faculty Development is pleased to announce a new leadership development opportunity for mid-career women faculty in the School of Medicine. The ALICE Program – Academic Leadership, Innovation, and Collaborative Engagement – will provide in-depth opportunities for leadership skill development, personal reflection and goal setting, peer-mentoring, and structured 360 feedback. The program aims to address the widely recognized gap in the number of women in senior leadership positions in academic medicine by providing a tailored leadership development opportunity for women.

This year-long program will include a combination of full-day, half-day, and 1-2-hour sessions. Content will focus on personal leadership skills designed to help individuals gain greater self-awareness, management, and communication skills needed to deftly navigate leadership in academic medicine. Sessions will include:

  • An intensive all-day Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) training focused on of how to manage interactions with diverse personality types
  • 360 Assessment, including a workshop with an experienced Executive Coach to develop an action plan
  • Negotiation workshop led by a national expert in the field
  • Unconscious bias workshop
  • Financial literacy seminars
  • Opportunities to interact with and learn from executive leaders at Duke

Faculty will engage with outside leadership experts and will set and refine personal development goals as part of their participation in the program.
