The topic of population health improvement is trending in our literature. Appearing this past week as a JAMA Viewpoint is a statement co-authored by the Chief of Duke General Internal Medicine, Dr. Ebony Boulware, along with Duke’s Chancellor, Dr. Eugene Washington, and Dr. Molly Coye, a social entrepreneur in residence at NEHI, the Network for Excellence in Health Innovation in Cambridge, MA.
From this article you will learn a perspective about opportunities and challenges facing academic health systems as we move beyond providing individual-patient care to providing health improvement at the population level. This means an expanded set of partners for collaboration. The authors call this the “third curve” of population health improvement for academic health systems, one that will push to fulfill a broader societal need.
