Woods named American Board of Pediatrics VP for Examination Administration

The American Board of Pediatrics has announced the appointment of Suzanne K. Woods, MD, associate professor of pediatrics and medicine at Duke University Medical Center, to be the ABP’s Vice President for Examination Administration and Credentialing, effective January 1, 2018.

Dr. Woods is the program director of the Combined Medicine-Pediatrics Residency Training Program and the Section Chief for Combined Medicine Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Primary Care at Duke.

"Leaving Duke was a very difficult decision," Woods said. "I came to Duke for the training and stayed so long because we have one of the best Medicine-Pediatrics programs in the country."

Woods received her MD from the Medical College of Ohio and pursued residency training in Medicine-Pediatrics at Duke. Following her residency, she spent a year on the faculty in the Department of Medicine at Emory University and was then recruited back to Duke in 1999 to join both the Department of Pediatrics and the Department of Medicine.

She became program director of the Combined Medicine-Pediatrics Residency Program in 2002 and has served as a resident advocate and given countless hours to improve resident education at Duke.

"Sue has been a leader in the program director community both locally and on a national scale," said Aimee Zaas, MD, director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program. "This is a fantastic opportunity for her to continue to influence medical training."
