Yancy named program director for Duke Diet and Fitness Center

Will Yancy, MD, MHS, associate professor of medicine (General Internal Medicine), will be the new program director of the Duke Diet and Fitness Center beginning July 1.

Dr. Yancy is an expert voice on diet and weight loss, particularly the low-carbohydrate ketogenic diet; the low-glycemic load diet; and the low-fat, reduced calorie diet. He has also conducted extensive research on:

  • The impact of obesity on health and health care;
  • The safety, effectiveness, tolerability and feasibility of various diets and medications for weight loss
  • Weight loss interventions used in primary care;
  • Strategies to improve motivation, adherence and weight loss success

Yancy has also studied innovative methods to help patients achieve and maintain their weight loss goals. These included the use of lifestyle coaches, trained interventionists, face-to-face, small group interventions, and intervention by telephone.
