What are your career goals?
As an academic nephrologist, I look forward to a career that blends clinical practice with medical education and research.
What were you looking for in a fellowship program?
I was drawn to nephrology by its mix of care continuity and high-acuity, and was looking for a program that would prepare me to serve patients independently in all areas of the field. I was additionally looking to find a fellowship that would challenge me to grow as a researcher, leader, and teacher; specifically, with a structured program to train as a clinician educator. Lastly, I was in search of a program with a supportive and collegial environment, as well as flexibility in shaping my career path.
Which Scholar pathway will you choose and why?
I am still deciding! I am drawn to the clinical, education, and research aspects of academic nephrology and will use my first year to choose between the clinical concentration vs. clinical investigator pathways. I am additionally interested in enrolling in the SEEDS program.
What are the strengths of the Duke program?
When I interviewed at Duke, I was immediately drawn to the level of excitement and passion shared by trainees and faculty, the program’s commitment to clinical education, and its collegial environment. The Duke community is a strong one, and opens many doors for trainees to grow both personally and professionally.
