kind and driven co-residents, variety in training sites, 4+2 schedule, opportunities to work with faculty who have similar career goals as myself, diverse patient population, opportunities to work with underserved

Reflections on the Duke Program

What are the strengths of the Duke Program?
The culture is very positive and focused on teaching. There is ample opportunity for continued learning but also the leadership are respectful and encouraging of taking time for wellness and being a human outside of the hospital. faculty are involved in interesting research and are very aware of evidence-based medicine in day to day decision making.

 What are your observations about the relationships between faculty and house staff?
It is respectful and collegial. Many are duke residency grads and so they understand the culture and are aware of how it feels to be in your shoes.

Tell us about your co-residents. What has helped you connect, support each other, and form friendships?
We all enjoy doing various activities outside of work together. There's a group texts for any interest you can think of.

About Life in Durham

What is the best thing about living in Durham and the Triangle?
There is beautiful nature everywhere and great hikes within 5-10 minutes, lots of fun breweries and great restaurants, great shows and artists come through to local venues, city close-by, ocean within 2.5 hours, mountains within 3 hours

How does the Triangle appeal to people of diverse backgrounds?
There are lots of diversity and integration of all types of people when out and about. cultural activities from Latinx celebrations to Juneteenth activities giving the community opportunities to learn about other cultures in a welcoming and inclusive way.

What are your interests outside of medicine?
running, yoga, going to breweries with friends, hiking, board games
