What are your career goals?
I would like to pursue a career in gastroenterology. My other interests are in global health and medical education.

Reflections on the Duke Program

What were you looking for in a residency program?
I was looking for two things in particular -- a curriculum that emphasized graduated autonomy in clinical decision making and a program culture prioritizing resident wellbeing and camaraderie. I'm happy to say that Duke has far exceeded my expectations in both of these qualities.

What are the strengths of the Duke Program?
Duke's residency curriculum has ample opportunity for subspecialty exploration. This was important to me because when I started I was undifferentiated with regards to my career plans. Additionally, Duke's location in the Triangle and its catchment area allow for a huge amount of diversity in patient population. But Duke's primary strength is its people. My co-residents are intellectually curious, motivated, and down-to-earth individuals, and I have been so lucky to work with them during my time here. It has also been such an honor to learn directly from faculty who have an active role in transforming clinical care through research and other initiatives.

About Duke University and Durham

Where did you choose to live and why?
I chose to live in downtown Durham near Durham Central Park. I love that it is walking distance to so many coffee shops, restaurants, and breweries. It feels like there are events happening right outside my apartment every single weekend -- concerts, food truck rodeos, the Durham Farmer's Market, and more!
