Reflections on the Duke Program

What were you looking for in a residency program?
Rigorous clinical training , collaborative work environment, and opportunities to tailor the experience to explore your own unique interests.

What are the strengths of the Duke Program?
The people! Everyone here from faculty and staff to co-residents and program leadership is incredibly supportive and genuinely care about each other. #DukeFam

The faculty here are wonderful and are very supportive of residents' wellbeing and academic growth! There is a great balance of autonomy and supervision. There is also a great deal of mentorship and teaching in the clinics and on the wards.

Tell us about your co-residents. What has helped you connect, support each other, and form friendships?
My co-residents are amazingly accomplished yet down-to-earth and easy to get along with. We started a class GroupMe from very early on and have stayed connected through socially-distanced gatherings and residency community building events.

About Life in Durham

What is the best thing about living in Durham and the Triangle?
Having lived in Durham for more than a decade, I am still constantly finding new things to do whether it be hiking trails or new restaurants. The food scene in the Triangle area has changed so much and I am excited to continue seeing what new things it has to offer.

How does the Triangle appeal to people of diverse backgrounds?
Lots of diverse foods, cultures and activities to do and explore!

Where did you choose to live and why?
I chose to live in South Durham which is both close to Downtown and an equal distance away from Chapel Hill and Raleigh/Cary. I love the flexibility of being able to get anywhere within a 15-20 minute drive.

What advice would you give to someone looking to move to Durham?
I would definitely recommend exploring the American tobacco trail, checking out local and state parks and visiting Duke Gardens in the springtime.

What are your interests outside of medicine?
I enjoy painting with acrylics, hiking with my cat, trying new restaurants in the area.
