Reflections on the Duke Program

What were you looking for in a residency program?
I wanted to be in a supportive environment where I would be encouraged to become the strongest and most well-rounded physician I could be.

What are the strengths of the Duke Program?
Duke does a wonderful job of being intentional about resident learning and wellness. As a resident, you see a wide breadth of patients that vary in medical complexity and also have the backing of a strong, pioneering institution and the opportunities that come with that.

What are your observations about the relationships between faculty and house staff?
Faculty are extremely approachable and committed to resident learning. Many of the faculty we work with are leaders in their fields and yet our interactions with them are so open and candid.

Tell us about your co-residents. What has helped you connect, support each other, and form friendships?
My co-residents are awesome! One of the students on our team once pointed out that every resident here refers to their co-resident as "awesome". I looked to my upper level resident and we both nodded our heads and said, in unison, "because they really are awesome!" I have loved getting to know my class and am constantly impressed and inspired by them. Residency is a busy and memorable time, and having fun, positive, and loving people to share it with makes it even better.

About Duke University and Durham

What is the best thing about living in Durham and the Triangle?
There is always something to do! The Durham/ Triangle area has a little bit of everything- good food and music, nature and outdoor activities, and fun places to explore.

What are your interests outside of medicine?
I love spending time with friends over a home-cooked meal, distillery tours, and DIY projects.
