What are your career goals?
After fellowship, I hope to practice general nephrology in an academic setting. I also hope to have additional responsibilities in medical education with roles that prioritize curriculum development and physician identity development.
What were you looking for in a fellowship program?
I was looking for a fellowship program that would train me holistically with both breadth and depth of clinical exposure. In particular, I was interested in treating patients diverse in both background and pathology with coaching from supportive faculty. I was also looking to be part of a community that would help me forge connections and individualize my personal and professional growth.
Which Scholar pathway will you choose and why?
I am interested in the two-year clinical concentration pathway with participation in the SEEDS program. The SEEDS program will lay a strong foundation for my aspirations in medical education with formal opportunities for medical curriculum development and mentored teaching.
What are the strengths of the Duke program?
Duke has a deliberate culture of collegiality and support that starts from the top. I found that Dr. Sparks and other departmental leadership are accessible and committed to ensuring each fellow is balancing work and life while progressing toward their professional goals.
