Fellowship Track: Clinical

Start Year: 2024

Originally from: St. Louis, MO

Education and training:

  • Undergraduate/Medical school: University of Missouri Kansas City (6 year BA/MD)
  • Residency: Washington University in St. Louis

Career goals:

  • Still to be determined! I would like my main role to be clinical, however I am also interested in medical education. For now, I think I would like to practice general endocrinology, however I do have interests in gender medicine and pituitary/adrenal disease.

Reasons I chose Duke:

  • I remember interviewing at Duke and thinking, “Wow, there is something special about this place.” The collegiately and excitement of both the fellows and faculty was palpable even over Zoom. The fellows were genuinely happy to train here, commenting specifically on the diverse pathology, graduated autonomy, and incredible support from the attendings.
  • Not only were the fellows happy, but so were the attendings -- many described the support they had personally received in their careers from Dr. D’Alessio, and how they were encouraged to pursue their own specific career goals even after finishing their training. I also loved hearing the attendings discuss pearls during case conference and found myself learning from miles away!
  • The combination of happy, hard-working, dedicated people is what convinced me Duke would be the best training program for me.

Happy surprises:

  • How approachable and supportive everyone is! For example, we were paired with rising 2nd years during our first week, who went above and beyond to make us comfortable navigating Duke and the VA. My attendings were also very understanding of the transition and very patient staffing new consults.
  • Durham is beautiful—so much greenery and lots of lakes nearby too.
