Internal Medicine Residency News - April 27th, 2026
What a great showing at the Housestaff vs Faculty basketball game in Cameron. Vibes were high, adorable kids were everywhere, and the level of play was amazing! Big thanks to Lauren for all of the organizing, Haley for her scoreboard prowess, DukeFam Alum DaMarcus Ingram for being the head referee, and Matt Labs and Dr. G for coaching. Some legendary offense (Eli! Kamron!) and defense (JVK’s block!). The question that will plague the residents until next year … was Tyler’s foot on the line? Thanks to all who played and cheered!
This week we have two big events: the Department of Medicine Awards night where the department thanks the SARs for their fantastic contributions to Duke AND Lauren Pinion’s visiting professor, the amazing medical educator Dr. Jen Spicer. Should be a great grand rounds!
Congratulations to Tara Siebert on her engagement to Jackson Rand!
Kudos this week to Ray Sadeq for an awesome SAR talk, to Femi Olatidoye and Lorena Millo for getting a gold star from one of our gen med patients for above and beyond lifesaving work, and to Anivarya Kumar from Zach Creech for running the cancer care experience session!
This week’s pubmed from the program goes to Chris Choi for his upcoming presentation at ASCO with mentor Dr. Matt Labriola! Choi C, Labriola M, Henderson N, et al. "Associations between Smoking, Tumor Genetics, and Outcomes in Men with Metastatic Prostate Cancer."
Have a great week!

Hi there, Neighbors!
Thank you to all who volunteered and served our community this month! As a reminder, the goal of these events is to help people know and love the Durham community for as long as we're here, and hopefully create a lot of fun activities that let residents bond with each other.
For those who still want to help out in the final days of April, the group we’re highlighting for donations this month is Habitat for Humanity! Sign-ups for our April group build are closed now, but we’re still fundraising for the build to support Habitat and its mission to combat the housing crisis in Durham. Please donate here, any amount counts!
If you have any ideas at all about community volunteering events, or about happenings in Durham that could help others get to know the city better, please reach out to get it added to the next email.
Yours in neighbor-ing,
Victor
